Programme Notes
The piece was commissioned by Suzhou Chinese Orchestra. Comprising two movements, the piece is composed based on the Jiangsu folk song, "Charm of Gusu". From the music, seemingly, we can hear the boat song of Lake Taihu, the sound from the bells of the Hanshan Temple, the Suzhou Pingtan music in the courtyard, and the lashing sound of the waves in Jiangnan Water town. Unleashing the composer's praise of Jiangnan and his affection towards how the Suzhou people love their hometown, the music also embodies Chinese people's great national pride.
