Programme Notes
This piece was composed by Danhong Wang and commissioned by the Tianjin Song and Dance Theater Chinese Orchestra in 2016.
The work consists of four parts: "Jinmen", "Yangliuqing", "Goubuli", and "Eighteenth Street". The music uses operatic drumming styles and Tianjin-style fast passages to showcase the strong local characteristics of Tianjin. At the same time, the infusion of a jazz style near the end mirrors how Tianjin, an ancient city, has evolved into today's colourful modern metropolis. This work vividly demonstrates the fiery passion of percussion and its powerful artistic appeal.
