The original version of this piece was written for pipa, guitar and percussion in 2014. In this new version, the guitar is substituted for zhong ruan.
Sound, even when it does not occur in perfect harmony, can be beautiful. Sometimes the absence of symmetry reveals unique qualities of sound that would otherwise remain hidden; new strengths of sound can be found among their differences rather than their similarities. As long as sounds breathe together and exist in the same place and time, they can be woven together into a tapestry of unexpected depth and beauty.
