Programme Notes
The piece was inspired by Sizihwan(West Bay) in Kaohsiung. Through the sound of Erhu, the beautiful song-like melody conveys the infinite imagination of the landscape. In the beginning, the musical atmosphere seemingly pictures the moonlight casting on the tranquil sea, flickering along with the undulant waves. It then leads to the Erhu cadenza and sharply enters into the vivid and light musical passage interwoven with the embellishing performance of Erhu solo. Besides, a rich emotional melody follows up, as well as the strong rhythmic allegro amplifies the musical tension. Finally, the music returns to the tranquil theme, where the emotional melody reappears. In the end, the piece lingers with the dimming Erhu sound, going further and further.
